Saba Jelokhani Mokry , DDS
ChairpersonDr. Mokry completed her undergraduate studies at NC State University. In 1991, she graduated from UNC School of Dentistry-Chapel Hill with a Doctorate in Dental Surgery and was in private practice until 2011. She currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Operative Dentistry for UNC Chapel Hill. Dr. Mokry believes that giving back to the community is her moral obligation and gives meaning to her life. She has been involved in many a dental mission trip locally and internationally, and has been a volunteer at Wake Smiles since 2003. In 2010 she started a dental mobile clinic in Hyde County, collaborating with the NC Baptist Men. She has also volunteered with Mission of Mercy Clinic, Raleigh Rescue Mission, and numerous other open door clinics and dental buses.
C. Knox McMillan, DDS, MS
Immediate Past Chairperson
Dr. McMillan retired after serving the Raleigh area as a periodontist for 42 years. He received his DDS(‘71) and MS(’73) from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. He spent 3 years as a US Navy periodontist at US Naval Station, Rota, Spain before returning to Raleigh. In addition to his private practice, he has served as a clinical instructor in the UNC Graduate Periodontics Program and was the Taskforce Chair in starting the Wake Smiles indigent care program.
Nahal Miller, DDS
Dr. Nahal Miller was born in Mallorca, Spain, and lived in several countries before her family settled in the United States when she was a teenager. Dr. Miller received her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston in 2004. She completed the Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residency at the University of North Carolina in 2005, and began practicing in the Triangle area shortly afterward.
Dr. Miller practices at Apex Family Dentistry, she believes in providing all her patients with high quality compassionate dental care, a little bit of humor, and in a relaxed environment. Dr. Miller believes in being of service to humanity, she spends her free time volunteering at Wake Smiles, traveling the world with her husband Trevor, and cheering on the Clemson Tigers.
Kavita Ghai, DDSDr. Ghai has been practicing since 1989. She received her degree from New York University, and then completed a general practice residency at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City. She is a member of American Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, North Carolina Dental Society and Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society. Dr. Ghai and her husband reside in Cary with their daughter Pooja and son Ricky. She enjoys reading, exercising, time with family, and volunteering at local events.
Gary D. Oyster, DDS
TreasurerDr. Oyster is a member of the American Dental Association, the North Carolina Dental Society, the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society, the Academy of General Dentistry, the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists. He has served on two American Dental Association councils. He is a founding member of Wake Smiles and has participated in Mission of Mercy dental clinics statewide. He is the program chairperson for the Paul Revere Study Club and attends many seminars and continuing education courses.
Raleigh Wright, DDSDr. Raleigh Wright is currently the CEO/Clinical Director for Lane & Associates Family Dentistry. He has been with Lane & Associates since 1994 after he graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. Dr. Wright is a member of the ADA (American Dental Association), Wake County Dental Society and the Paul Revere Study Club. Dr. Wright feels strongly about supporting outreach dental organizations and has volunteered for multiple Mission of Mercy dental clinics and dental buses.
Dr. Wright is a life-long resident of North Carolina and enjoys many of the outdoor activities that are offered in our beautiful state. He is married and has four active children. He maintains a strong commitment to his family and his local church.
Nazir Ahmad, DDS, MPHBoard Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Nazir Ahmad, DDS, MPH has been performing oral surgery and practicing dentistry in North Carolina since 2008. Dr. Ahmad was raised and lived in Raleigh, NC for the past 30 years. He received his undergraduate degree from NC State and Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree (DDS) from the UNC School of Dentistry. Afterwards, he completed a four year Oral & Maxillofacial Surgical residency at the Virginia Commonwealth University, in Richmond, Virginia. Dr. Ahmad has been on the Wake Smiles Board for two years and volunteers monthly in the clinic.
Mac Collie, DDS, MSDr. Mac Collie is an orthodontist with Wake Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry. He is a true Tarheel with an undergraduate degree in Chemistry, a Doctorate of Dental Surgery and a Masters of Science in Orthodontics from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. His professional affiliations include the American Association of Orthodontics, Southern Association of Orthodontics, North Carolina Association of Orthodontics, UNC Orthodontic Alumni Association, American Dental Association, North Carolina Dental Society, and Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society. Dr. Collie has been on the Wake Smiles Board for two years and serves as the Chairperson of the Fundraising Committee.
Catherine Cunningham, DDSDr. Cunningham graduated from UNC School of Dentistry in 2013. She has served as the North Carolina Dental Society 4th district President, serves on the Wake Tech Community College advisory committee and is a member of the Raleigh-Wake County Dental Society, Paul Revere and Butler Ross study clubs. She volunteers regularly at Wake Smiles.
J. Christian Sheaffer, DDS
SecretaryDr. J Christian Sheaffer has been a board member and volunteer with Wake Smiles since 2003. He utilizes his endodontic expertise to provide and advise on root canal treatment. Dr. Sheaffer is proud of Wake Smiles accomplishments as the longest running volunteer dental clinic in Wake County.
Sommer Wisher, RDH, BS
Sommer Wisher is a proud Tarheel, graduating with her BS in Dental Hygiene from UNC School of Dentistry. Prior to being in the dental profession, Sommer worked for over 12 years in the nonprofit sector both locally and globally. Her career in private practice and volunteer work with Wake Smiles is a perfect combination to keep her passion for dentistry and access to care alive. Sommer was an Adjunct Clinical Professor at UNC School of Dentistry in the Dental Hygiene Department, a member of the UNC Dental Hygiene Community Advisory Committee and UNC Dental Hygiene Strategic Planning Advisory Board and will be serving as the President of the North Carolina Dental Hygienists’ Association for 2018-19. Sommer loves spending time with her family, being outdoors and baking.
Dianne Keyser, CDA, MAEd.
STAFF: Executive DirectorMs. Keyser has worked in the dental field for over 35 years. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Sweet Briar College in 1973. She is a Dental Assisting National Board Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) who has worked as a dental assistant in private practice and public health for 23 years. In 2001, Dianne began teaching in the dental assisting program at Wake Technical Community College. In 2007 she received a Masters in Adult Education from University of Phoenix. She came to Wake Smiles in 2013 after retiring from Wake Tech. She worked and volunteered with Urban Ministries Open Door Dental Clinic and continued volunteering with Wake Smiles after Open Door Clinic closed. Ms. Keyser became a member of Rotary Club of Raleigh after coming to Wake Smiles. She believes wholeheartedly in the Rotary motto “Service above Self”.
